While describing the inner characteristics required of a seeker on the path of divine love as described by the rasika saints, Śrī Sundar Jī says:
Neither a devotee has fear of the social decorum of the three worlds, nor does he follow the injunctions of the Vedas. He is not in the least afraid of ghosts or spirits, nor does he fear the gods and demigods. [1]
He listens to no one and has no desire to see anything else. Apart from his Beloved (Priyatam), he does not sing the glories of anyone else. These are the characteristics of one who walks the path of divine love. [2]
At times, he laughs, and then suddenly begins to shed tears of love. Sometimes he becomes so overwhelmed with bhāva that no words emerge from his voice. [3]
Sometimes, in great joy, he begins to sing loudly, and at other times, he assumes silence as vast as the sky. [4]
His heart and all his actions are absorbed in Hari — how then can he remain outwardly composed? Śrī Sundar Jī says: O disciples, listen! Such are the signs of one who walks on the path of divine love with sincerity. [5]
