Shri Swami Haridas Ji is the supreme emperor among all transcendental lovers. Except for his devotion to Shri Kunj Bihari Biharini in the secluded bowers of Vrindavan, he neither glanced elsewhere nor voiced expectations from anyone, regardless of who they might be. [1]
Swami Shri Haridas Ji was extremely cautious and attentive in his devotional service to his lord, Shri Shyama Kunj Bihari. While performing his service, he was so alert that he never became overwhelmed or lost consciousness, which could deprive him of serving his deity. On the contrary, the divine couple would become so engrossed that they might lose bodily consciousness, and it was he who attentively served them during those times as well. He always sang of the transcendental loves and merry-makings of Shri Shyama Kunj Bihari and never sang of any other theme.
Such an unparalleled Rasika (transcendental lover) has never been found in the universe or in the upper spiritual planets, nor is there any possibility of such a discovery in the future, either on this earthly plane or any spiritual one. [2]
While living, he became as if bodiless, forgetting worldly pleasures and attachments. He dedicated his body and mind to the divine dust of Vrindavan, abandoning the fear of social and scriptural obligations. [3]
He showed love to everyone, without making distinctions between special and ordinary people. His solemn pledge was to not accept any service from anyone to make his personal life comfortable. He maintained this vow until his last breath. [4]
To Shri Swamiji, the grandeur of Indra and of emperors, wealth, and the attractions of a lustful lady were like dry grass. In the end, Shri Vyasji Maharaj humbly stated that compared to Swamiji Maharaj, so-called sadhus or saintly souls like us do not live up to the true order of sainthood. [5]
