Mana Na Rangaaye Rangaaye Jogi Kapara - Shri Kabirdas

Man Na Rangaaye Rangaaye Jogi Kapara.
Aasan Mari Mandir Mein Baithai,
Brahm-Chhandi Poojan Laage Pathara. [1]
Kanava Phaday Jatava Badhaule,
Daadhi Badhay Jogi Hoi Gaile Bakara.
Jangal Jaay Jogi Dhuniya Ramaule,
Kaam Jaray Jogi Hoy Gaile Hijara. [2]
Mathava Munday Jogi Kapda Rangaule,
Geeta Banch Ke Hoy Gaile Labara.
Kahahin ‘kabir’ Suno Bhai Sadho,
Jam Darvajva Bandhal Jaibe Pakada. [3]

- Shri Kabirdas

The yogi’s mind remains untouched by the hue of love; only his clothes have been dyed. Sitting cross-legged in the temple, he gazes at the idol, yet fails to perceive the divine presence within it, or to recognize that God resides in every heart. Instead, he worships the idol merely as a piece of stone. [1]

With pierced ears, long, unkempt hair, and a beard as wild as a goat’s, he roams the forest, suppressing his desires to the point of becoming like a eunuch. [2]

Though he shaves his head, dressed in dyed robes, and recites the Gita, he becomes nothing more than a mere talker. Listen, O saintly brother, Sri Kabirdas warns: without pure love, indulging in external rituals and hypocrisy will lead you to the gates of Yama (the god of death), where you will be bound like a prisoner.
