Terau Burau Na Kou Maanai - Shri Surdas, Soor Sagar

(Raag Dhanashree)
Terau Burau Na Kou Maanai.
Ras Ki Baat Madhup Neeras Sunu, Rasik Hot So Jaanai. [1]
Daadur Basai Nikat Kamalan Ke, Janm Na Ras Pahinchaanai.
Ali Anurag Udan Man Baandhyo, Kahe Sunat Nahin Kaanai. [2]
Sarita Chalai Milan Sagar Ko, Kool Mool Drum Bhaanai.
Kaayar Bakai, Loh Ten Bhaajai, Larai Jo Soor Bakhaanai. [3]

- Shri Surdas, Soor Sagar

Gopi says, O Uddhav! We do not mind your discussions of Brahm-Gyan (Impersonal Brahm), but only a true connoisseur (Rasika) can understand the essence of the rasa (nectar) we speak of. How can one with a dull, monotonous heart ever comprehend its depth? [1]

A frog always lives near the lotus, yet it fails to understand the rasa (nectar) of the lotus. The bumblebee, however, flies even from afar to partake of the lotus’s nectar, whether invited or not. [2]

When a river flows to meet the ocean, it surges with unstoppable force, breaking banks and uprooting trees. Similarly, cowards merely engage in empty talk but flee at the sight of weapons, whereas brave souls stand firm, fight fiercely, and achieve victory. (Thus, your philosophy of Nirgun (the formless, impersonal Brahman) finds no resonance here in Braj, a land immersed in Sagun Bhakti, the loving devotion to Shri Krishna in his embodied form.)
