(Raag Malar)
Vrindaavan Kyon Na Bhaye Ham Mor,
Karat Nivaas Govardhan Upar, Nirakhat Nandkishor. [1]
Kyon Na Bhaye Bansi Kul Sajani, Adhar Peebat Ghan Ghor.
Kyon Na Bhaye Gunja Banaveli, Rahat Shyaam Ju Ki Or. [2]
Kyon Na Bhaye Makaraakrit Kundal, Shyaam Shravan Jhakhajhor.
Parmaanand Daas Ko Thaakur, Gopin Ke Chittachor. [3]
- Shri Parmanand Das, Parmanand Sagar (1375)
O creator! Why was I not born as a peacock in Vrindavan?
There, I would dwell atop Govardhan, forever gazing at the enchanting son of Nanda, Shri Krishna. [1]
O Sakhi, why was I not born as a flute resting upon Krishna’s lips, tasting His divine nectar? Why not a vine of wild gunja berries, always twining close to Shyam’s form? [2]
Why not a makara-kundal (crocodile-shaped earring), adorning and gently swaying in Shri Shyamsundar’s ears?
Says Paramananda Das—my beloved Thakur is none other than the thief of the gopis’ hearts, Lord Shri Krishna. [3]
