Shri Radha Kund, Govardhan

Shri Radha Kund is the holiest place on Earth and is even considered non-different from Radha Rani. 16th-century saint Srila Rupa Gosvami of Vrindavan, a close associate of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu consider Radha-Kund to be the supreme of all holy places. Padma Puran states: "yathä rädhä priyä viñëoù tasyäù kuëòaà priyaà tathä sarva-gopéñu sevaikä viñëoratyanta-vallabhä". Just like among all the Gopis, Shri Radha Rani is Krishn’s Pran Vallabh(the most dear of his life). Similarly, Radha’s dearest Kund, Radha Kund is also extremely dear to him.

Divine Pastimes:
Once Lord Krishna slayed a mighty asura (demon) in the form of a bull, his consort Radha tersely told Krishna to wash off his sins by taking dips in various holy rivers. Krishna laughed it off and struck the ground with his foot whereupon the mighty rivers emerged, welled up and formed a kunda (little water body). Subsequently the Lord bathed in the water to please Radha. The kunda came to be called "Shyam-Kund". Indignant that Krishna used his powers for this, Radha and her girl attendants dug out a kunda with their bangles and filled it with water from “Manasi-Ganga”, another holy kunda at nearby Govardhan. That particular kunda is today's "Radha-Kund" where people come from far and wide to take a dip.

Appearance:
Radha Kunda and Shyama Kunda were lost to the world for a long time. Then in 1550 Lord Chaitanya came to Vrindavan on the day of Kartika Poornima and stayed in Vrindavan for two months. One day Lord Chaitanya sat under a Tamala tree and while meditating upon Radha-Kunda and Shyama- Kunda, He saw two bodies of water in a nearby paddy field. Lord Caitanya who is none other then Radha and Krishna, could immediately identify them as Radha Kunda & Shyama Kunda. He very happily took the waters of the kundas and applied tilaka on His body using the clay from Radha-kunda.

Greatness of Radha Kund:
Shri Nimbarikacharya Ji made his disciple aware of the greatness of Radha Kund in the verse and instructed him to recite a particular hymn at the bank of Radha Kund.

"सदा राधिका नाम , जिह्वा ग्रह स्थात्। सदा राधिका रुप , मक्षठयग् आसताम् , श्री तौ राधिका कृत्रिरन्त: स्वभावे । गुणा राधिकाया: श्रीया एतधिये:। “
Let the name of Shri Radhika be at the tip of my tongue, the form of Shri Radha before my eyes, the glory of Shri Radhika before my ears and let her emotion and virtues flash in my heart always”.

While digging the well the workers hit upon a rock and blood began to come out of that rock. Raghunath Das Goswami immediately stopped the digging. Later on, Lord Krishna appeared in his dream and told him that He was non-different from Govardhan and the rock that was hit upon was the tongue of Giriraj.
