Sankarshan Kund - Govardhan
Pastimes :
Sankarshan Kund is amongst the most important heritage sites in Braj. This Kund is named after the elder brother of Lord Krishn, namely Sankarshan, who is also known as Baldau or Dauji.
A temple dedicated to Dauji is located near this Kund. The deity adored in this temple was found in this Kund only and was established 5000 years ago by Shri Vajranabh Ji, the great-grandson of Lord Krishn. This deity finds mention in the ancient Vedic literature including 'Garg Samhita'. It is believed that a holy dip in this Kund relieves one from all the past sins incurred in this material world.
It is said that 30000 yojan beneath the' Patal Lok' is 'Anant Lok', which signifies the 'ignorance attribute' of Lord Sankarshan, who is also known by the names of Sheshnaag, Anant, or Balram. Lord Sankarshan is believed to have 1000 hoods, one of which sustains the entire universe.
Nearby Sankarshan Kund is the Samadhi of Shri Kumbhandas Ji. He was amongst 'Ashtachap' poet-saints, disciples of Mahaprabhu Vallabhacharya Ji. These saints sang various pastimes of Lord Krishn through Kirtans and their poetic compositions.
In the 16th century, Raja Maan Singh, the army chief of Emperor Akbar, had come to seek blessings of Shri Kumbhandas Ji in this very premise of the Kund.
