Vrindavan Kumbh

Vrindavan Kumbh

Kumbh (urn) is related to the urn of Ambrosia. When there was a war between the demigods and the demons for the urn of Ambrosia, then a few drops of Ambrosia fell at 4 places on earth, which includes Prayag Raj, Hrishikesh, Nashik, and Ujjain. Since then, Kumbh takes place at these four places on the same date.
According to the Matsya Purana, when the beloved devotee of Lord Hari, Shri Garuda Ji, was taking the urn of Ambrosia to protect his mother's life from Kadru, Garuda Ji rested on a Kadamba tree on Kaliya Dah on the banks of Yamuna in Vrindavan. A few drops of Ambrosia from the urn fell on the tree and on the banks of Yamuna Ji during rest. Since then, Kumbh was started in Vrindavan.
Shri Garuda Ji is the supreme Vaishnava, through him the urn of Ambrosia came to Vrindavan, that is why Vrindavan Kumbh is called Vaishnav Kumbh.
