Kot Van is Thakur Ji's Cow herding place. Once upon a time, he was calling his cows, at the same time mother Yashoda reached there, she was feeling sweaty while coming from the forest. Then Thakur Ji said - Mother! Why don’t you take a bath in this cold water in the Kund? The Kund is known as Shital Kund where she took a bath.
At that time mother Yashoda desired for the darshan of Ras Leela and Thakur Ji has shown him Raas Leela at Kotvan. Kot refers to the fields where she was hidden. Also, Gopis didn’t feel awkward at that time, because she was hiding in the fields. Shri Krishna has shown Raas Leela to Yashoda Maiya and fulfilled her desire. Therefore this place is known as Kotvan.
During Braj Parikrama, Shri Chaitanya Dev also came to this place and sat here and his Baithak is also here. Also, Surya Kund, Shrinath Ji’s Baithak and Shri Vallabhcharya's Baithak is also here.
