Once Shri Krishna was excited to meet Radhika, but due to the problem created by her mother in law Jatila, sister-in-law Kutila and husband Abhimanyu, He was not able to visit that place. After waiting for few hours Shri Krishna climb to tree and just like a bird (cuckoo) he started chirping.

After listening to sweet and melodious voice just like a bird, all the friends and Radhika understood Shri Krishna's indication and got excited to meet him. At that time Jatila said to Vishakha- "Vishakhe I have heard bird voice many times but this voice is very melodious. Let’s go and see this bird. All the friends were very happy and entered Kokilavan and got very happy to meet Shri Krishna. That is why this place is known as Kokilavan. 
Even today, the sweet sounds of many birds – such as peacocks, peahens, male parrots, female parrots, swans and cranes – can be heard in this protected and enchanting forest.

There is another temple here "Shri Bihariji Temple" where a famous saint "Naga Ji" who resided here. Other pastimes includes when Shanideva who is a great devotee of Lord Krishna desired to see Raas dance and darshana of Shri Krishna. So Shri Krishn fulfilled the wish of Shani deva here and hence it is believed that Shani Deva even today he is still engrossed in remembrance of Shri Krishna. There is very famous and old temple of Shani Deva here. In Brahma Viavarat Purana the story of Shani Deva is described and Shani Deva is considered as the best among the Krishna devotees. Suraya Kund is also located here, where Suraya Deva had the darshan of Shri Krishna.
