Famous Alleys of Vrindavan / Kunj Lanes of Vrindavan

Just near the famous Seva-kunja in Vrindavan are four narrow galees, or alleys:

1) Daana-galee 2) Maana-galee 3) Gumaana-galee 4)Kunja-galee.

Once, when Shri Radharani was in maana, She made Her way to Maan-sarovara via the Maana-galee. In the narrow alley named Dana-galee, Shri Krishna and His sakhas asked the gopies for tax (dana) in the form of prema, and the gopies asked the same thing from Krishna. This galee is therefore known as Dana-galee. Prema-galee is where Radha Krishn's first meeting took place. At that moment, by the mutual play of Their eyes, a relationship of prema was established between Them which increased moment by moment. That is why this galee has become known as Prema-galee. Some also call it Gumana-galee, because when Krishna asked Priyajee for tax, She exhibited great pride(gumana), and refused to give it. The galee down which the sakhees would make their way to Seva-kunja, whereShri Krishna would massage the feet of Shree Radha, is called Kunja-galee. Radha Damodar temple is situated at the crossing of these four galees.
