Nearby "Kokila van" (The forest of cuckoo's) in Braj, Shanideva resides there. A glimpse of yours is very divine godliness. According to "Brahmavavarta puran" (scripture), you're always absorbed in the meditation of lord Krishn. You had your own principle not to look at anyone ever.
Once goddess Durga gave birth to lord Ganesha. On this occasion, many celestial gods arrived there to congratulate her. Shanideva also came there. So mother asked him that, oh Shanidev! since when you came here, you're standing here with your face down to earth, why you're not blessing my child, Shanidev told that oh mother! My glance upon a person is inauspicious one.
Goddess Parvati asked him why you're saying so, then Shanidev answered that, oh mother! I have been remaining a devotee of lord Krishn since childhood, earlier I had no interest in either looking or talking with anyone.
I had completely detached from the world, but my father gets me married with the deserving pious daughter of Chitrarath and every wife expects matings from her husband. In observing my reluctance towards my wife, she cursed me that you're not even looking at me, so when you give glance upon whoever he'll be destroyed immediately. After that Goddess Parvati started laughing in hearing Shanidev's words and told whatever it may be, you have to look upon my son, you just follow my orders anyway.
The moment Shanidev glanced upon him, his head flew up to Golok spontaneously and Jagadamba's (Lord Durga's) lap got filled with blood, only trunk of his son leftover her lap and then lord Vishnu took head of an elephant and attached it to the body of the boy and the boy again got life and that boy became Gajanan (elephant-headed god), revered among all of the gods, Goddess Parvati cursed Shanidev that to get lost and become body less now onwards, but Shanidev maintained his same pleased condition, stood there . This is the identity of Krishn devotee, in every situation he remains pleased as always. It's so told in "Brahmavavarta puran" that no one is better Krishn-devotee than Shanidev. Owing to Krishn-devotee you're so worshiped in Braj although the mentality of people is changed somehow as they could see you just like a planet and people are unaware of your reality linking with lord Krishn.
