One whose heart is impure, yet who outwardly disguises himself as a saint, is far inferior even to a crow. A crow is the same within and without—its body and nature are in harmony. But a hypocrite hides inner impurity beneath the appearance of holiness. Therefore, natural simplicity, free from deceit and pretension, is far superior to any outward display of saintliness.
