Birth :
Shri Parmananddas Ji was born in a Brahmin house in Kannauj in the year 1493. He was the eternal Sakha (friend) of Shri Krishna and was a poet of a very high order. Shri Parmanand Das Ji used to sing and do kirtan of the verses composed by him in a very melodious raga. Anyone who listens to His kirtans gets attracted.
Shri Parmananddas Ji had darshan of Shri Navneet Priya Ji in his dream:
Once Shri Parmanand Das Ji thought of taking bath in the Ganges in the month of January in Prayag and came to Prayag from Kannauj. The fame of Parmananddas Ji's Kirtan started spreading in Prayag and devotees from far and wide started coming to listen to his Kirtan.
Shri Mahaprabhu Vallabhacharya Ji was residing with his servants in Adail, across the Yamuna in Prayag. Some people would come to listen to the kirtans of Parmanand Das Ji from the Adail and return and sing the same kirtans there. When Jalghariya Kapoor Kshatriya, a servant of Mahaprabhu, heard that kirtan from the people, He was enthralled by the raga, and a desire to hear the kirtans of Parmananddas Ji appeared in his heart. But due to the service of the Lord, He doesn't get time.
One day a Vaishnava of Adail came from Prayag and told that today is Ekadashi and Paramananddas Ji will do Jagran (wakening full night) and do Kirtan tonight. Hearing this, Jalgharia thought that tonight He should go to Parmananddas Ji's Jagran and listen to Kirtan. Thinking of this, Jalghariya came to his home after doing his service and crossed the Yamuna at night and reached Parmananddas Ji. Everyone knew that he was the servant of Mahaprabhu, so everyone respected him and made him sit on the seat. Parmananddas Ji had never met him. Shri Parmananddas Ji was singing the verses of separation, the reason for which is that He is the supreme friend of Krishn and is separated. Till now he had not seen Shrinathji. Therefore, His conscience was filled with a sense of separation. The pada is as follows -
(Raag Bihaagarau)
Brajke Birahi Log Bichaare.
Bin Gopal Thagese Thaade Ati Durbal Tanhaare.
Maat Jasoda Panth Nihaarat Nirakhat Saanjh Sakaare.

“Shri Krishn will definitely come to meet us.”
Shri Parmananddas Ji sang these padas. Now it's early morning and all the audience went to their homes. Jalghariya said to Parmananddas Ji, "You sing better than I had heard about you." Jalghariya came adamantly saying Jai Shri Krishna to Parmananddas Ji.
Due to awakening in the night, Shri Parmanand Das Ji fell asleep and saw in his dream that He was doing kirtan and Jalghariya was sitting in front and in his lap, Shri Navneet Priya Ji was seated. The Lord said, "Parmanand Das Ji, I was listening to your kirtan sitting on the lap of the Jalghariya." At this Paramananddas Ji's eyes opened and He was struck by the beauty and melodious voice of Thakur Ji and settled that tableau in his heart.
First meeting with Mahaprabhu Shri Vallabhacharya and initiation :
Ever since Shri Parmananddas Ji had darshan of Thakur Ji in his dream, his mind was restless to see him again. He thought that Thakur Ji gave darshan in the lap of Jalghariya who is the servant of Mahaprabhu. Therefore, I should go to Adail, then the desire of my heart will be fulfilled. Thinking like this, Shri Parmanand Das Ji came Adail. There he saw that after taking bath, Mahaprabhu is worshiping the sun god. To Shri Parmanand Das Ji, Mahaprabhu seemed to be Shri Krishna. Then Parmananddas Ji started thinking that Thakur Ji performs Leela in the lap of Jalghariya, so the reason for this is that his Guru is none other than Shri Krishna himself. Shri Parmananddas Ji sat there.
Mahaprabhu after worshipping the sun god sat on the seat and his eyes fell on Parmananddas. Mahaprabhu said "Parmanand, describe the glory of God"
On this, Shri Parmanand Das Ji started singing the padas -
(Raag Sarang)

“The beauty of those eyes of Shri Krishn which is like lotus petals is indescribable.”
In this way, Shri Parmananddas Ji sang some padas of separation. Hearing these padas, Mahaprabhu Shri Vallabhacharya said, "Describe some childhood pastimes of Lord".
Shri Parmanand Das Ji said, "Sir, Lord's pastimes do not manifest in my heart ."
On this Mahaprabhu said, "Go take a bath, and then I will explain to you the Pastimes of the Lord."
When Shri Parmananddas Ji came after taking a bath, Mahaprabhu said that come ahead and sit nearby. Parmananddas came forward and sat down. Then Mahaprabhu narrated the Lord's name to Parmananddas Ji and after some time got Brahmasambandh (remembrance of our real identity with the supreme) done in front of Shri Navneet Priya Ji. Then Mahaprabhu Ji narrated the sequence of the tenth canto of Shrimad Bhagwat, which invigorated all the pastimes of the Lord in his heart. Now Mahaprabhu said "Parmanand, describe the childhood pastimes of Lord"
Shri Parmananddas Ji made a pada of childhood pastime and started singing in front of Mahaprabhu and Shri Navneet Priya Ji -
(Raag Saambhari)

(Raag Bilaval)
“Manimay Aangan Nandake Khelat Dou Bhaiya”
“Both the brothers Shri Krishn and Balram are playing in the gem-studded courtyard of Nanda Maharaj.”
Shri Parmanand Das Ji sang these padas of childhood pastimes, listening to which Mahaprabhu was very pleased and gave him the service of kirtan of Shri Navnitpriyaji. Now Parmananddas Ji would regularly compose the new verse and narrate it to Shri Navneetpriyaji. After the service, he used to narrate the padas to Mahaprabhu. Shri Mahaprabhu used to narrate Srimadbhagwat regularly and Paramananddas Ji also used to listen to pastimes regularly and sang verses according to the pastimes.
One day, in the narration, Shri Parmananddas Ji heard the greatness of the feet of the Lord, then by making the padas of the feet of the Lord, he started narrating it to Shri Mahaprabhu. That pada is-
(Raag Kanhrau)
Charan Kamal Vandau Jagadeesh Godhanke Sang Dhaye.
Je Padakamal Dhoori Lapataane Kari Gahi Gopinke Ur Laye.
“I worship the lotus feet of Shri Krishn, who is running with his cows.”
On hearing this pada, Mahaprabhu was very pleased. After this Shri Parmananddas Ji sang a prayer and form of Mahaprabhu.
"Yah Maangon Gopijanavallabh"
On hearing this pada, Mahaprabhu thought that Paramananddas Ji, after reciting this pada, has prayed for the vision of Braj, so now we should go to Braj.
Mahaprabhu's arrival at Parmananddas Ji's house and after listening to Parmananddas Ji's hymn of separation, Mahaprabhu attained the state of samadhi for 3 days:
Mahaprabhu Shri Vallabhacharya Ji started His journey from Adail to Braj with his servants Damodardas Harisani, Krishnadas Meghan, Parmananddas, and Yadavdas taking all the confectionery and kitchen ingredients. All the Vaishnavas were walking with them. On the way, they all came to Kannauj where Paramananddas Ji's house was. Shri Parmananddas Ji requested Mahaprabhu, "Your Majesty, you have been very kind to me, due to which I have been blessed, now also come to my house and purify the house." On this, Omniscient and Benevolent Shri Mahaprabhu Ji, who fulfills the desires of the devotee, came to his house.
Shri Parmananddas Ji prepared the kitchen well and Mahaprabhu offered bhog (food) to Shri Thakur Ji and then got the prasad. After this, Mahaprabhu sat down on the Gadi (seat) and said to Paramananddas Ji, "Sing some glories of Lord".
Parmanand Das Ji thought that at this time Mahaprabhu's mind is with Shrinathji in Govardhan, so I will sing a pada of separation. After this, Parmananddas Ji sang a pada of separation -
(Raag Sorath)
Hari Teri Leelaki Sudhi Aavai.
Kamal Nain Manmohani Moorat Manman Chitr Banaavai.
Ek Vaar Jaay Milat Maya Kari So Kaise Visaraavai.

Kabahuk Nain Moondi Antargati Manimalapahraavai.
Parmanand Shyam Dhyan Kari Aise Birah Gavaavai.
“O Hari, I am missing your divine pastimes a lot.”
Hearing this pada, Mahaprabhu fainted, and this state of ecstasy remained for 3 days. All the servants sat nearby. On the morning of the fourth day, Mahaprabhu woke up. All the Vaishnavas were pleased. Shri Parmanand Das Ji was afraid and thought that now I will not sing such padas of separation. Then sang a new pada -
(Raag Vibhag)
Mayiri Hon Anand Gungaoon.
Gokulki Chintamanimadhau Jo Maango So Paoon.
Abate Kamalnain Braj Aayai Sakal Sampada Baadhi.
Nandraayke Dvare Dekhau Asht Mahasiddhithaadhi.

“O sakhi, I will sing the glories of Krishn.”
(Raag Gauri)
“Vimalajas Brindavan Ke Chandrako"
“The glory of the moon of Vrindavan Shri Krishn is amazing.”
After this pada again this pada was sung in Raga Sarang- "Chaliri Nandgaon Jaayvasiyai".
Hearing this pada, Mahaprabhu thought that now we should go to Braj.
Arrival in Braj and Gokul Darshan:
From Kannauj, Mahaprabhu proceeded towards Braj and came to Mathura where Mahaprabhu's house was, and also the Baithak (meeting place). In Mathura, everyone bowed Yamuna Ji and Parmananddas Ji sang a pada for Yamuna Ji -
(Raag Raamkali)
Shriyamunaji Yah Prasad Hon Paoon.
Tihaare Nikat Rahon Nisavasar Raamkrishn Gungaoon.
Manjan Bimal Paavanjal Chintakulakhavahaoon.

Parmananddas Phaldata Magan Gopal Ladaoon.
“O Yamuna Ji, have mercy on me.”
After this, Mahaprabhu Ji came to Gokul and got Paramananddas Ji to have darshan of Gokul which is specific for childhood pastimes. Shri Parmanand Das Ji started singing the pastime which he saw in Gokul.
(Raag Bilaval)

(Raag Sarang)

(Raag Kaanharau)
Jasumati Grih Aavat Gopijan.
Vaasartaap Nivaaran Kaaran Vaaranvaar Kamalmukh Nirakhan.
“The Gopis are coming again and again to Yashoda's house to quench the pain of their hearts with the darshan of Shri Krishna.”
Shri Parmananddas Ji sang more such padas.
Arrival in Govardhan:
Mahaprabhu stayed in Gokul for a few days, then He came to Govardhan with all the Vaishnavas. Shri Parmanand Das also came to Govardhan with Mahaprabhu. Parmananddas Ji had darshan of Shrinathji and remained immersed in his beautiful form. Mahaprabhu said "Parmananddas, sing some glories of Lord"
Shri Parmananddas Ji sang -
(Raag Kanhrau)
Mohan Nand Rai Kumar.
Pragat Brahma Nikunj Nayak Bhaktahit Avatar.
Pratham Charan Saroj Bando Shyamghan Gopal.
Makarkundala Gandmandit Charunain Visaal.
Baliram Sahit Vinod Leela Sekar Het.

(Raag Poorvi)
Merou Mai Madhau Son Man Lagyu.
Merou Nain Aur Kamal Nainko Ikthaurau Kari Maanyau.
“O Sakhi, my mind has been attracted towards the beautiful form of Shri Krishn.”
Thus after singing the padas it was time for Shayan Aarti. Mahaprabhu did the Shayan Aarti and put Shrinathji to sleep, and after coming down from Govardhan, he sat down. Shri Parmanand Das also came down and sat there. Inner servant Ramdas Ji sent Shrinathji's prasad milk for Parmananddas Ji. Shri Parmananddas Ji started drinking milk, but He found the milk too hot, so he drank the milk after cooling it. Later Ramdas Ji came and asked Shri Parmananddas Ji that "I had sent you Mahaprasad milk, so you got it." Shri Parmananddas Ji said that "Yes, the milk had come but how does Shrinathji drink so much hot milk, will he like hot milk?"
Ramdas Ji said, "It is very good that you have told this, you are a devotee of God, we will do as you command." Then all the servants began to be careful in the service.
At the time of Mangala in the morning, Shri Parmananddas Ji sang a pada to wake up Lord -
(Raag Vibhas)
Jago Gopal Lal Mukh Dekho Terau.
Paachhen Grahkajakaron Nitya Nem Merau.
Vigasat Nisa Arun Disa Udit Bhayou Bhan.
Gunjat Ang Pankajvan, Jaagiye Bhagwan.

Parmanandswami Dayal Jagatmangalroop.

After this, the pada of breakfast were sung -
(Raag Ramkali)

Mil Baithe Sanket Saghanvan Vividhi Bhaanti Keeyau Man Bhaayau.
Parmanand Sayaani Gvalani Ulati Ang Giradhar Piy Pyayau.
After singing these padas, Lord's darshan of Morning opened, then Parmananddas Ji had darshan of Shrinathji and asked him "Why do you take such hot milk".
Shrinathji said, "Whatever is offered to me, I accept it."
A Pastime of Shrinathji:
Shri Parmananddas Ji used to recite kirtans to Shrinathji regularly. One day a king came for darshan of Shrinathji. The king had darshan and went to his queen and said that "Shrinathji is very beautiful, you should also go and have darshan." The queen said that "I will go for darshan only if our customs are followed in the temple (i.e there should be no one in the temple, solitude darshan)" on this the king said that "why to cover-up for the darshan of Shrinathji" but the queen did not agree. Then the king came to Mahaprabhu and started requesting that "Maharaj, I explained a lot to the queen but she does not want to have such darshan. So please get the let Her darshan the way she wants. Mahaprabhu said, "Bring the queen, first I will let her have darshan of the Lord, then the rest will have darshan later." Then the king brought his queen and the queen began to have darshan of the Lord. In this, Shrinathji did a mischievous pastime, He opened the main gate of the temple, due to which the crowd came running inside and pushed the queen forward, due to which all the clothes of the queen were torned and almost removed and she was very ashamed. Then the king said to the queen, "I had already told what kind of veil in Thakur Ji's darshan. He is the Lord of Braj, He never let anyone stay in the veils."
At that time Shri Parmanand Das Ji started singing -
(Raag Devgandhar)
Koniyah Khelaveki Vaani.
Madan Gopal Lal Kahuki Rakhat Nahin Kaani.
Shri Parmananddas Ji sang this one rhyme that Mahaprabhu said, "Parmananddas, sing like this - Bhali Yah Khelave Ki Vaani."
Then Parmananddas Ji sang the same verse.
(Raag Devgandhar)
Bhali Yah Khelave Ki Vaani.
Madangopal Laal Kaahuki Naahin Raakhat Kaani.
Apanehathle Detahai Chanavar Doodhdahi Ghritsaani.
Jovarajoto Aankhdikhaavai Pardhan Kon Dindaan.
Suniri Jasodha Sutake Karatab Pahal Maantmathaani.
Phori Daari Dadhi Daari Aajarmein Kon Sahai Nithaani.
Thaadi Dekhat Nandaju Ki Rani Moondi Kamal Mukhhaani.
Parmananddas Jaanat Hain Boli Boojhidhon Aani.
The arrival of the devotees of the Lord at the house of Shri Parmanand Das Ji:
Once upon a time, all Vaishnavites came to Shri Parmananddas Ji's house such as Ramdas, Kumbhandas, etc. Shri Parmanand Das Ji was very pleased to know that the devotees of the Lord came into my house. This is my great fortune because Shri Thakur Ji resides in the hearts of these devotees. Therefore, if these devotees are pleased, then Shri Thakur Ji will shower grace on me. First of all, something should be offered to these devotees. But I have nothing to offer. Thinking this Shri Parmananddas Ji sang a pada -
(Raag Hamir)
Aaye Mere Nandnandan Ke Pyare.
Mala Tilak Manohar Baano Tribhuvanke Ujiyaare.
Prem Sahat Vasat Man Mohan Nekahu Tarat Na Taare.
Hriday Kamalke Madhy Biraajat Shrivrajraajdulaare.
Kaha Jaanon Kon Puny Pragat Bhayau Mere Ghar Jo Padhaare.
Parmanand Prabhukari Nyochhaavar Vaarvaarhon Vaare.
“The dear devotees of Nandanandan have come to my house.”
Shri Parmanand Das Ji presented this pada as an offering to the devotees and sent them off.
Compositions :
Shri Parmananddas Ji have composed more than 2000 padas which are compiled in a book named Parmanand Sagar.
Disappearance :
One day Shri Parmananddas Ji, after paying obeisance to Gusain Shri Vitthalnath Ji, climbed the Govardhan mountain and with the desire to leave the body, offered obeisance to the flag of Shri Govardhannathji and came to Surabhi Kund where he lay down. Shri Gusainji did not see Parmananddas Ji in Rajbhog aarti and asked about him. A disciple said that he had gone to Surabhi Kund in a state of extreme separation. Shri Gusainji then went to Surbhi Kund to know about him. Seeing Shri Gusainji, Shri Parmanand Das Ji bowed down to Shri Gusainji and sang “Preet to Shri Nandanandam Sau Keeje” in Raag Sarang in front of Shri Gusainji. A disciple requested Parmanand Das Ji to tell him some such remedy by which the Lord would be kind to me. Shri Parmanand Das Ji sang: "Praatsamaye Uthakariye Shri Lakshmansut Gaan" in Raga Bhairav and said that if you sing it with concentration, you will get its fruits. After that Shri Parmanand Das Ji, concentrating his mind in the form of Shri Radha Krishna, left the body in 1584 while singing "Radhe Baithi Tilak Sav Aarti" in Raag Sarang. Shri Gusainji had said at that time that there were two "oceans" in the Pushtimarg, namely Surdasji and Parmananddasji.
