Biography of Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji

Birth :
Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji was born on the 14th day of the bright fortnight in the month of Magh (Jan-Feb) in 1828 in Lucknow. His paternal grandfather Shah Biharilalji was a famous rich man in Lucknow at that time. He received the title "Shah" from the Nawabs. His eldest son, Shah Govindlalji's second wife, gave birth to Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji. Your name was Shah Phundanlal. His elder brother's name was Shah Kundanlal (Lalit Kishori).

Childhood and Education:
Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji loved his elder brother Shah Kundanlal Ji very much. Both the brothers loved each other like Rama and Lakshman. Both were given the same education. Both were good poets and both lived together. In childhood, both the brothers were given education in Persian. Both were endowed with sharp intellects, so soon they became well versed in Persian. For a few days, they continued to study Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Bengali, etc. languages ​​and became proficient in that too.

Obedient to the Elder Brother:
Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji was very obedient to his elder brother. Once Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji had fever, and he felt thirsty. He drank cold water several times. When the elder Shahji Sahab heard that, he immediately told him that "Brother, it is not right to drink water in the fever", since then he stopped drinking water. Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji did not drink water till the second day. In 14 hours, his condition became worse. In the morning, when Shahji Sahab was worried and asked the reason for this, Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji became silent. His servants said that since you refused, he did not drink water, probably due to this he has become weak. The elder Shahaji Sahab immediately called the doctor. After checking Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji, the doctor said that there is nothing to worry about, this condition has happened only because of not drinking water, give him water. If he had not drunk water for three to four hours, then "jaundice" would have happened. This obedience of Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji is exemplary to all. His devotion, courage, and fearlessness are also commendable.

First Arrival to Vrindavan:
Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji along with his elder brother Shri Lalit Kishori Ji had come for the darshan of Shridham Vrindavan around 1849.
Shah Bihari Lal had built a new temple of his presiding deity Shri Radharaman Ji. Ever since the temple was built, Shah Bihari Lal had not come to Vrindavan to see it. Both these brothers were great devotees from childhood, so both the brothers were sent to Vrindavan to see the temple. They found the place of Vrindavan very beautiful and they wished to stay here, but at that time it was impossible, till that time their grandfather, father, etc. were alive. Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji along with his elder brother Shri Lalit Kishori Ji returned to Lucknow after traveling all over Braj for about a month.

Grandfather, Father, and Mother passed away :
A few days after returning from Vrindavan, Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji's paternal grandfather, father, and mother passed away. Shri Radharaman Ji ordered his elder brother Shah Kundanlal (Shri Lalit Kishori Ji) in a dream to come to Vrindavan. After this, both the brothers divided the property between the family, and they were freed from the bondage of the family.

Final arrival to Vrindavan:
According to the orders of Shri Radharamanji, Shri Lalit Kishori Ji and Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji had to come to Vrindavan with enough money for the construction of a huge temple as per the orders of Radharaman Ji. Therefore, on the 13th day in the bright fortnight in the month of Vaishakh (April-May) in 1856, both the brothers left for Vrindavan with an army of 4000 armed soldiers for protection. They started residing in King Patnimal's Kunj near the temple of Shri Radharaman Ji. Some of the servants accompanying them remained with them, for all the other servants, arrangements were made to stay in big tents on the banks of the Yamuna.

Construction of a grand temple near Nidhivan, Vrindavan :
After staying for a few days in Vrindavan, Shri Lalit Kishori Ji and Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji built a grand temple for their worshipful deity Shri Radharaman Ji near Nidhivan. The construction work of the temple was started on the 5th day of the bright fortnight in the month of Magh (Jan-Feb) in 1860. Marble stone was used in the temple and this grand temple was completed in 8 years. Shri Lalit Kishori Ji named this temple "Shri Lalit Nikunj" but at present, it is known as 'Shahji Ka Mandir' or ‘Tede Khambe Wala Mandir’. On the 5th day of Magh (Jan-Feb) in 1868, Shri Lalit Kishori Ji and Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji brought their worshipful deity Shri Radharaman Ji [they are called ‘Chhote Radharaman’ because of their small size, to this new temple] with great ceremony and established Him here. The rest of the lives of both the brothers were spent in this temple with peace and joy. There is a large hall called as ‘Basanti Kamra’ (Durbar Hall) adorned with Belgian Glass chandeliers and exquisite paintings depicting the loving pastimes of Lord Radha-Krishna. This room is opened only twice a year during the occasion of Basant Panchami and also has fountains in its central part. Lalit Kishori and Lalit Mohini Sevya Thakur are present here.

Protecting Shri Radha Krishn of Rasleela from the bulls :
When Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji was in Vrindavan, Rasleela was held here with great dignity and great expenditure. His elder brothers used to compose pastimes. Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji used to manage them. One day, Rasleela left for Jalkeli Leela (water pastimes) on the banks of Yamunaji. In front, Shri Radhakrishna used to dance, behind them were the singers, and behind them was a crowd of spectators. When they reached the crossroads in front of the temple of Shri Radharamanji, two bulls fighting from the lane of Bhora Ghat swooped on Shri Radha Krishn, the spectators behind all started wailing. Shri Radha Krishn was so absorbed in the dance that they were not even aware of this. Seeing this, Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji immediately ran forward and started whispering by putting his hands on the foreheads of both the bulls and grabbed the horns of both, and took them to the other side. Everyone was astonished to see this.

Service of elder brother Shri Lalit Kishori Ji:
Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji's entire life was spent in the service of Shri Lalit Kishori Ji. He had all the qualities of his elder brother. Living, tolerance, nature, character were all similar to him. He used to compose beautiful poems. Shri Lalit Madhuri used the name "LalitMadhuri" in his compositions. In these 12 years from 1873 to 1885, he collected the poems and pastimes of Shri Lalit Kishori Ji. He had also printed some of those books.

Composition :
Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji has composed many verses which are compiled in the book 'Abhilash Madhuri' along with the composition of His brother Shri Lalit Kishori.

Disapearance :
In 1885, on the morning of the 5th day in the month of Jyeshta (May-June), Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji suddenly ordered for the preparation of the platform of Raj (dust of Vrindavan). He was completely healthy, so his followers were very surprised by this order. However, they prepared the platform using Shri Yamuna Ji's sand. Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji said to the servant "Take me to the platform" (he had paralysis for many years so he could not walk on his own). His chair was taken near the platform. He sat on the platform and started chanting the holy names of Shri Radha Krishn. His son Shah Madhuri Sharanji had gone to Delhi and was called by telegram. Upon his arrival, Shri Lalit Madhuri Ji, after giving some necessary instructions to him, left his body and entered the divine pastimes of Shri Radha Krishn while doing Sankirtan.
His samadhi was also built along with his elder brother, Shri Lalit Kishori Ji, in the 'Shahji Ka Mandir' at the gate named Chandpol, near the gate of Nidhivan.
