Biography of Shri Madhuri Das Ji

Introduction :
Shri Madhuridas Ji was an exclusive worshiper of Shri Radha Krishn in the mood of Sakhi. Shri Radhacharan Goswami has written his introduction in his 'Nava Bhaktamal' :
 
Ujval Ras Anurag, Raag-Maarag Vishvaasi.
Raag-Rang Mein Kushal, Madhuri- Kund-Nivaasi.
Lata Madhuridhyey Gey Gopijanavallabh.
Ashtajaam Abhiram Bhaavna Sukh Nit Tallabh.
Daan, Maan, Vanshi, Vipin, Keli Kala Abhilash Ki.
Madhuri Bhayi Shat Madhuri, Madhur Madhuridas Ki.
Madhuridas Ji was a resident of Madhuri Kund. He was very well skilled in singing. He used to worship the Lord of Gopi's Gopijanvallabh Shri Krishn. He had love for the exclusive devotion to Shri Radha Krishn, devotion with love was his path. He was always engrossed in the service of Shri Radha Krishn. He composed six Madhuri texts namely Daan-Madhuri, Maan-Madhuri, Vanshi-Madhuri, Vipin-Madhuri, Keli-Madhuri, and Abhilash-Madhuri or Utakantha Madhuri. These compositions of Madhuridas Ji are very sweet.
 
Spiritual Life :
Shri Madhuridas Ji was a disciple of Acharya Shri Roop Goswami following the Chaitanya (Gaudiya) sect. His tenure is considered to be from 1543-1643, but his composition period is 1630 as mentioned in Kelimadhuri. There is a village named Ading situated on the road from Mathura to Govardhan. From this village towards the south at a distance of 4km is Madhuri Kund, which is famous as the place of the spiritual practice of Shri Madhuridas Ji. It is written about this Kund (lake) - "In the book Braj Bhakti Vilas composed by Goswami Shri Narayan Bhatt Ji, it is described that because of the holy place of Shri Priya (Radha) Ji's very pleasant Sakhi (friend) named Madhuri, that place and the name of the Kund (lake) is Madhuri Kund." There is a beautiful temple. Now Madhuri Kund is under the supervision of Mahant of Krishn Ganga Sansthan Shri Balramdas Ji. Shri Madhuridas Ji was an extraordinary scholar and a unique Rasik singer of pastimes of the divine couple Shri Radha Krishn.
 
Compositions :
Shri Madhuridas Ji composed many texts such as Utkantha Madhuri, Vanshivat Vilas Madhuri, Kelimadhuri, Vrindavan Vihar Madhuri, Daanmadhuri, Maanmadhuri, Hori Madhuri, and Priya Ju ki Badhai.
Shri Radhacharan Goswami has also written an introductory chapter about Shri Madhuridas Ji in 'Nava Bhaktamal' -
Shri Madhuridas Ji's love is reflected in his composition Utkantha Madhuri, the pain of separation and the exclusive affection for Shri Krishna is described in this text. In Vanshivat Madhuri, there is a depiction of the various forms of pastimes on the banks of Yamuna at Banshivat. In Kelimadhuri, there is a representation of the divine Keli pastimes of Shri Radha Krishn. Vrindavan Madhuri describes the sweetness of Vrindavan. In Daan Madhuri, the derision of Shri Krishn is visible. In Maan Madhuri, the Maan (sulk) ​​of Shri Priya Ji is seen and in Hori Madhuri, the melody of Holi pastimes is also seen in a very sweet form.
All the above-mentioned texts of Shri Madhuridas Ji have been published in the name of Madhuri-Vani along with the Hori Madhuri verses. One of his compositions, Keli Madhuri, has mentioned its completion date in 1630.
The compositions of Shri Madhuri Ji are the best example of Braj language poetry. They are beautiful both in terms of emotion and language. The mood of Sakhi is the basic spirit of his worship. In Utkantha or Abhilash-Madhuri, he has considered Sakhi to be the root of all Nectar.
 
Aho Vishakha Sahachari, Tum Sab Ras Ki Mool.
Yah Utkantha Beli Jyaun, Nakh Sikh Phoolai Phool.
"O dear Visakha and other Sakhis (friends), you are the root cause of all Nectar"
 
Shri Madhuridas Ji is anxious to see the divine pastimes of Shri Radha Krishn with his own eyes and adorn them with his own hands:
 
Ek Baar In Lochanani Dekhon Naval Vihar.
Inahee Haathan Duhun Ko, Karaun Baithi Shringar.
It is my desire that I may see the ever-new pastimes of Shri Radha Krishn with my own eyes, sit and adorn both of them with my hands.
