For one who is exclusively devoted to the uninterrupted nitya-vihāra, external āratīs become secondary. Such a devotee's heart remains constantly restless only for the plays of love of Śrī Priyā-Priyatama. This intense longing alone is regarded as the true āratī. By contrast, repeatedly performing only the external ritual of āratī without such inner love is like a wife serving her husband merely out of irritation rather than genuine affection.
