A person may imagine himself to be free and independent, yet in truth he remains forever under the divine control of God. Just as a kite appears to soar freely through the sky while its string is extended, but returns to the hand of its master the moment the string is drawn in, so too is the soul always dependent upon the Lord. This also conveys another beautiful meaning: the more a person glorifies his own virtues, the farther he drifts from Śrī Hari, but the moment his ego dissolves, he finds himself exceedingly close to Him.
