Bhanu Ke Prakas Bina Kanj Mukh Thanp Rahe - Taj Begam

(Kavitt)
Bhaanu Ke Prakaas Bina Kanj Mukh Thaanp Rahe,
Ketaki Ki Baas Binaa Bhaur Dukh Seer Hain. [1]
Dekhe Binaa Chand Ke Chakor Chit Chaay Rahe,
Swaati Boond Chakhe Binaa Chaatak Mann Peer Hain. [2]
Taapak Ki Jyoti Binaa Sees To Patang Dhunai,
Neer Ke Vichoh Meen Kaise Kari Ji Rahe. [3]
Kahe Chhavi ‘Taaj’ Mitt Maaniye Hamaari Kidhau,
Nainani Mein Dekhun Jab Nainin Mein Dheer Hain. [4]

- Taj Begam (Taj Bibi)

Without the sun’s light, the lotus flowers remain closed,
Without the ketaki’s fragrance, the bees suffer sorrow. [1]

Without seeing the moon, the chakora bird’s heart longs,
Without drinking the raindrops of Swati, the chataka bird’s heart aches. [2]

Separated from flame, the moth burns its head in despair,
Separated from water, how can the fish survive? [3]

Śrī Taj Jī says, O friend, in the same way,
my eyes find satisfaction only when they constantly behold the glimpses of Śyāmsundara. [4]
