Hari, Tero Bhajan Kiyo Na Jaye.
Kah Karau, Teri Prabal Maya Deti Man Bharmai. [1]
Javain Avau, Sadhu Sangati Kachhuk Man Thharai.
Jyo Gayand Anhai Sarita, Bahuri Vahai Subhai. [2]
Vesh Dhari Dhari Haryau Par Dhan, Sadhu-Sadhu Kahai.
Jaise Natwa Lobh Karan, Karat Swang Banai. [3]
Karau Jatan, Na Bhajau Tumkau, Kachhuk Man Upjai.
Sur Prabhu Ki Sabal Maya, Deti Mohi Bhulai. [4]
- Sri Surdas, Soor Sagar
O Lord Sri Hari! I find myself incapable of truly performing Your bhajan. What can I do? Your powerful Maya keeps deluding my mind again and again. [1]
When I associate with saints, my mind becomes calm for a while due to their holy company, but soon that same old restlessness returns — just like an elephant that bathes in a river and then throws dust upon itself again. [2]
Despite dressing like a saint, I remained only a pretender — outwardly pious but inwardly deceitful, looting other’s wealth like an acrobat who performs a prank only for money. [3]
O Lord! Though I am determined to worship You, however, as soon as I begin, worldly thoughts arise within me. Shri Surdas says — O Lord! Your Maya is so powerful that it constantly keeps me lost in delusion. [4]
