Kou Adhomukh Jhooli-Jhooli Ghum Ghootyau Hai. [2]
Kou Nahin Pahin Laun, Kou Mukh Gahai Maun,
‘Sundar’ Kahat Yonhin Vritha Bhus Kootyau Hai. [3]
Prabhu Saun Na Preeti Mahin, Gyaan Saun Parchai Nahin,
Dekhau Bhai, Aandharani Jyon Bazaar Lootyau Hai. [4]
- Shri Sundardas Ji

Some wander barefoot, some wear torn rags; they torment their bodies only to display their renunciation. [1]
Some live on milk, some on fruits; some hang upside down, imagining such acts lead to God. [2]
Some reject salt, others vow silence; Śrī Sundar Dās says all this is in vain, like beating a husk with no grain. [3]
Without pure love for the Lord and real knowledge, all such austerities are like a blind man looting the market — utterly useless. [4]
