Lord Shiva to Narada Muni: One must take complete refuge in one’s worshipful deity and follow no other path, for true devotion lies in exclusive devotion alone. One should not worship, bow to, remember, look at, sing of, or criticize any other deity. One should not eat food offered to any other deity, nor wear anything used by others, nor maintain any conversations or dealings if not related to one’s own Lord. Just as the chataka bird accepts only the Svati rain and nothing else, a jiva should surrender solely to his worshipful deity.
