- Shri Hita Vrindavan Das

I bow again and again to that Lord Śiva who is pleased solely by ‘Bhakti’ (devotion). Renowned throughout the world as Gopeśvara — the Lord of the gopīs — He stands as the guardian and protector of Vṛndāvana. [1]

A pilgrimage to Braj is considered truly successful only when one comes before Gopeśvara, beholds His darśana, and places upon one’s head the sacred dust of this holy place. Śrī Hita Vṛndāvana Dāsa declares that Gopeśvara Mahādeva assumes the form of a sakhī within the forest bowers, where he serves the divine couple, Śrī Rādhā Kṛṣṇa, and drinks the nectar of Their eternal Nitya Vihāra Rasa.
