The eyes, speech, mind, and ears of a Virahiṇī gopī have all gone to her beloved Śyāmasundara. Within the confines of her body, only a few life-breaths remain, sustained solely by the hope that her Beloved will return one day.
Just as an aquatic creature living within water remains unaware of the pain of separation from water, but experiences its suffering only when separated from it, similarly, the true pain of separation from the Lord can only be known by one who has directly experienced union with Him.
If a fire breaks out somewhere, it can be extinguished with water. But if the water itself catches fire, where can it be extinguished? In the same way, if Śrī Kṛṣṇa, who cools the suffering of the entire universe, Himself sets my heart ablaze with the fire of separation, then who can possibly bring relief to it?
The creator, the lotus-born Brahmā, is certainly deserving of ridicule due to His complete ignorance of the essence of divine love, for He has created the obstruction of eyelids to interrupt our vision. When loving eyes drink the sweetness of Śrī Kṛṣṇa’s lotus face, the blinking of the eyelids feels like a vast separation. For the rasikas, even that fleeting moment of a blink is as unbearable and difficult to endure as countless eons.
