In Varaha Purana, Narada Purana, Garg Sanhita and Srimad Bhagwat, this temple has been confirmed to be on the banks of Vishnu Ghat. There is a belief about this temple that this temple is of Krishna's era. The original temple no longer exists. It is also said that this temple was established by Lord Krishna's great grandson Bajranabh around 5500 years ago, but the present temple is built by King Patnimal of Banaras. It was constructed to commemorate the four-armed form of Lord Krishna and to save the Yamuna from the pilgrimage Prayag.
